George Vaggelas (BSc, MA, PhD) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Port and Shipping Management of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

He is a founding member of PortEconomics, member of Port Performance Research Network (PPPRN) and a BoD member of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME).

George has many years of experience in port sector, having worked as an advisor to the President and CEO of Thessaloniki Port Authority (ThPA), served as a member of the Greek Regulatory Authority of Ports. He was a Managing Director of Ports & Shipping (P&S) Advisory and a consultant and researcher of maritime transportation systems and port for years.

George participated in numerous research projects and has (co-) authored several studies examining shipping transport and seaport economics, management, and policy published in international scientific journals and presented at international conferences.
